Architecture Department Field Trip | Siem Reap
From 16–18 January, the Architecture Department (ARC) conducted an academic field trip to Siem Reap, aimed at deepening students’ understanding of Khmer classical arts, vernacular architecture, and contemporary residential development rooted in local living traditions.
Throughout the trip, students explored architectural references, ranging from ancient temples and a century-old Khmer wooden house to the private residence of Architect Hok Sokol, as well as modern housing developments such as Borey Phum Bakong. The program also included opportunities to engage with practicing architects and observe how Khmer spatial values, materials, and lifestyles continue to inform present-day design.
This field trip offered students a valuable learning experience beyond the classroom, connecting architectural history, culture, and contemporary practice through direct observation and dialogue.
