Khmer traditional dance is a fundamental part of Cambodia’s cultural identity, reflecting the nation’s history, beliefs, and artistic heritage. However, rapid modernization, globalization, and changing lifestyles have contributed to a gradual decline in public interest, particularly among younger generations. The lack of dedicated spaces for performance, education, and cultural exchange further limits opportunities to preserve and promote this important tradition.
Β
The Tevi Khmer Traditional Dance Center is proposed as a contemporary performing arts center that addresses these challenges by creating a multifunctional cultural hub for performance, learning, exhibition, and community engagement. Inspired by the elegance, rhythm, and fluid movements of Khmer classical dance, the design reinterprets traditional architectural elements through a modern and sustainable approach.
Β
More than a performance venue, the center serves as a cultural landmark that connects artists, students, researchers, and the public while strengthening Cambodia’s cultural identity. By providing an accessible platform for cultural transmission and artistic expression, the project aims to preserve Khmer traditional dance for future generations and introduce its rich heritage to a wider international audience.
